Material Handling Supplies

Regardless of what kind of business you are running, organization is always the key for effectiveness in any work environment.

Warehouses are the arms and the legs of small and big companies. For this reason, it is necessary to use the space as wisely as possible in order to maximize productivity.

A good material handling supply helps to increase the output control of the products, facilitating organization and control over any data related to the company productivity. By approaching the pragmatic problems with the correct logistic, you can improve the storing, manufacturing, packing and product transportation.

Now, according to the type of business, certain equipment are more suitable than others. Also, item in warehouses go throughout a variety of stages and process with different characteristics, and therefore, different handling requirements. For every single stage, there is a material handling system that can benefit the processes involved in your production. Here is a small overview of the diverse kinds of material handling supplies that can boost the efficiency of your warehouse and are mainly dived in four categories.

Storage and Handling

This category mainly refers to non-automated equipment. This type of equipment is used either for long or short periods of time. Either to hold buffer materials during downtimes and temporary pauses, or for a long-term storing, this equipment includes pallets, shelves, casters and racks. It is imminent to consider the type of material of the storing supplies according to the goods or products to be handled. The proper size and placement within the warehouse is also important to be considered in order o to use the space the best possible and avoid any sort of possible traffic.

Transportation: Engineered systems

A variety of units in charge of transportation fall in this category. Engineered systems are a sort of material handling supply that mostly facilitate and enable storing and transportation within the facilities of the warehouse. These systems are usually a combination of diverse products integrated in a single system. This equipment is mostly automated and typically custom made. Some examples of these systems are Automated and Retrieval systems (also known as A//RS), Conveyors, Handling robots, etc. Some of these units can perform fully automated functions to quickly locate a storage item’s location and quickly retrieve it for other uses.

Transportation vehicles: Industrial trucks

Within this category, we can find different kind of transportation devices used to move goods and products. These vehicles must assist the material-handling system, in other words, they must be able to go where engineered system cannot. Forklift trucks, tow tractors and stock chasers are some of the most representative examples of industrial trucks. Such vehicles can be powered manually, by gasoline, propane or electric.

Bulk Material Handling

These type of systems are typically a configuration of stationary machinery such as conveyor belts, reclaimers, bucket elevators, truck dumpers and stackers among others.  The objective of a bulk system is to transport material from one or different location or sources to an ultimate destination. This type of handling engineering can be use in a small or in a large scale and are more commonly used on farms, and ports rather than warehouses.
